Recruitment of Social Ministry Worker  

Kowloon Union Church (KUC) is recruiting a full-time Social Ministry Worker to coordinate the church’s Social Ministries, particularly the Peacemaking and Refugee Ministry.  

Job Description  

The focus of this position is on outreach, empowerment and pastoral care of the refugee and asylum seeker community; and on the social ministries of KUC.  

This work includes to:  

  •  Liaise with churches and organizations for public education  

  •  Prepare the peacemaking team/ambassadors for sharing  

  • Prepare and lead the fellowship/small group sessions with the refugees and asylum seekers   - Coordinate programs that enhance participation of this community in church   - Solicit external support for the refugees and asylum seekers  

  • Conduct home visitations and individual pastoral care  

  • Participate on KUC’s behalf in refugee-related networks  

  • Act as liaison with media, organizations and other churches  

  • Prepare funding applications and reports  

  • Additionally, support ministers in conducting Sunday Worship   

Qualifications  

We seek a candidate with these qualities:  

1. Theological training (e.g. has a divinity degree)  

2. Working experience is an advantage  

3. Experience working with underprivileged communities, in a multicultural and multilingual environment  

4. Sensitivity to different cultures and religious beliefs  

5. Of mature character, independent and with good communication skills  

6. Fluency in English and Chinese 

Location  

Jordan, Hong Kong (primary location)

Duration  

Full-time position with initial one-year contract that is renewable for three years.
